The Las Vegas Raiders are bringing in a new quarterback following Aidan O'Connell's thumb injury.

Las Vegas is signing Desmond Ridder off the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Ridder originally joined the Cardinals during the offseason as part of a trade with the Atlanta Falcons. Arizona released him in August but re-signed him to the practice squad.

The 25-year-old entered the NFL as a top-100 pick in 2022 but couldn't keep the starting job with the Falcons. The third-round pick completed 64% of his passes for 3,544 yards and 14 touchdowns against 12 interceptions in 19 appearances (17 starts) with Atlanta, which went 8-9 with Ridder under center.

Ridder could have a chance to start for the Raiders eventually, as Las Vegas continues to struggle to find consistency at QB. Antonio Pierce's outfit named Gardner Minshew its Week 1 starter but turned to O'Connell in Week 6.

O'Connell started Week 7 against the Los Angeles Rams but left early after breaking his thumb. He's expected to miss four-to-six weeks. Minshew threw three interceptions after coming in.

The loss to L.A. dropped Las Vegas to 2-5 in 2024. The Raiders play the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals in their next two games before entering a Week 10 bye.
