Report: Browns expected to trade Za'Darius Smith to Lions
Cleveland Browns edge rusher Za'Darius Smith is expected to be dealt to the Detroit Lions before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
The Lions and Browns have been discussing a trade for Smith, and the reported expectation is that it'll get done Sunday night or Monday.
Detroit plays the Green Bay Packers in Week 9, while the Browns face the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Lions have been in the market for an established pass-rusher since defensive end Aidan Hutchinson broke his fibula and tibia on Oct. 13. The team reportedly reached out to the New York Jets about Haason Reddick.
Smith, 32, joined the Browns in 2023 and has recorded 10.5 sacks in 24 games. The three-time Pro Bowler has topped double-digit sacks three times in his career. He's also played for the Baltimore Ravens (2015-18), Green Bay Packers (2019-21), and Minnesota Vikings (2022).
