Saints' Olave meeting with specialists about concussions
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave will meet with specialists after suffering his second concussion in less than a month, interim head coach Darren Rizzi said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Katherine Terrell.
"We're more worried about Chris Olave the person and making sure that everything's good," Rizzi said. "Then once he goes through that process, we'll bring it back to football to see how that fits in. When I say day-to-day, it sounds like coach-speak. He's kind of seeing some specialists, and we'll go through the process."
Olave was carted off on a board during Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers after taking a big hit from defensive back Xavier Woods in the first quarter. He suffered his first concussion of the season Oct. 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The wideout has suffered four concussions in his three-year NFL career, Terrell adds.
Rizzi added that Olave wants to make the best decision for himself without thinking about football.
"He wants to go thoroughly through the process, making sure he's making the best decision for Chris Olave, removing football from that equation," Rizzi said. "What's the best decision for the person?"
He added: "So, my conversations with him and our medical staff, we've been thorough, and his family's going to be thorough with the process. I completely support that. I have five kids of my own, and if that was one of my kids, I would want to do the same thing."
Olave has recorded a team-high 400 yards this season in what's been a disappointing 2024 campaign for the Saints. Losers of seven in a row, the 2-7 franchise fired head coach Dennis Allen on Monday.
