Report: Prescott may require season-ending surgery
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott may require season-ending surgery after suffering a partial avulsion of his right hamstring, a source told The Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins.
A partial avulsion is when part of the tendon pulls away from the bone.
Cowboys officials are still determining whether the tear will heal on its own or if the quarterback will need to have a procedure to repair the injury, Watkins adds. Prescott injured his hamstring in Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy ruled out Prescott for Week 10 on Monday and added that a stint on injured reserve, which would sideline him for at least four weeks, is possible.
Prescott is likely to be sidelined for more than four weeks, sources told ESPN's Todd Archer.
The 31-year-old is seeking other opinions, according to NFL Network's Jane Slater.
Prescott said postgame that he felt something he's never felt before after sustaining the injury and "felt something pull."
Cooper Rush will start the upcoming matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in place of Prescott.
Dallas is in the midst of its first three-game losing streak since 2020. The Cowboys are 3-5 and will face teams with winning records over its next three games (Eagles, Houston Texans, and Washington Commanders).
