Lions overcome Goff's 5 INTs for comeback win over Texans

The Detroit Lions won one of the craziest games of the season in Week 10.

Jake Bates drilled a last-second 52-yard field goal to help Detroit claim a 26-23 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football despite Jared Goff throwing five interceptions in the contest.

Goff is the first QB to win a start with five interceptions since Matt Ryan in 2012. In the Super Bowl era, quarterbacks with at least five picks in a game have a 10-141-2 record, according to Josh Dubow of The Associated Press.

Goff entered the matchup against the Texans as an MVP candidate with only four interceptions this season. However, he completed just 15 of 30 pass attempts versus Houston for 240 yards and two touchdowns to five picks, including one in a Hail Mary pass attempt on the final play of the second quarter.

Goff had never thrown more than three INTs as a member of the Lions. His worst mark in a game previously came in 2018 with the Los Angeles Rams (four picks).

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud also threw two interceptions during Sunday's prime-time matchup, which became the first game with seven combined INTs since Goff's four-pick outing in a 2018 game between the Rams and Bears. Chicago passer Mitchell Trubisky was intercepted three times that day.

The Lions trailed 23-7 at halftime but scored 19 unanswered points in the second half and kept the Texans scoreless en route to improving to 8-1 this season. Houston is now 6-4.

"Our guys wouldn't go away," Lions head coach Dan Campbell said postgame, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN. "I knew we would wake up on offense. It was just a matter of time."

Bates converted two 50-plus-yard field goals Sunday night.

Detroit plays the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11, while Houston visits the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
