Dolphins' Hill: 'Don't count us out' after MNF win
Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill believes his team can build on the momentum after claiming an ugly Monday Night Football win over the Los Angeles Rams to snap a three-game skid.
"Don't count us out," Hill said postgame, according to NFL.com's Grant Gordon. "This is only Step 1."
Hill announced pregame that he's dealing with a torn ligament in his wrist. The injury didn't prevent the All-Pro wideout from helping Miami, as he finished the night with three catches for 16 yards and one touchdown, his first score since Week 1.
"Against the (Jacksonville Jaguars) Week 1, and then I kinda re-aggravated it trying to block my tail off during the course of the year," Hill said about his injury. "But it happens, it's football, no excuses. There's a lot of guys in the NFL who are hurt, who are injured, it's part of my job description, and I love it, man."
Hill, who led the NFL in receiving yards and TDs in 2023, is having a quiet 2024 season, having caught 37 passes for 462 yards and two scores through nine games. He's only posted one 100-yard game.
"He's a warrior, a captain of this team, and you know, as good as it gets in this league that's full of star players," Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said of Hill postgame. "It didn't necessarily surprise his teammates (that he played) I don't think, based upon his relationship with them and what he means to the team. ... Tyreek Hill wills himself to do things that most competitors can't match. It's one of the reasons that he's great."
It's been an inconsistent season for the Dolphins, who didn't have quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for four games earlier in the campaign due to a concussion. The Pro Bowl QB finished Monday's 23-15 victory with 20 completions on 28 attempts for 207 yards and one touchdown against one interception. Miami was limited to two TDs by Los Angeles, but the Dolphins kept the Rams out of the end zone, allowing only five field goals to earn a much-needed victory despite being outgained in total yards (238-327) and first downs (15-20).
The Dolphins improved to 3-6 with the win, good for the No. 10 seed in the AFC. Miami is still alive in the playoff picture, as the Denver Broncos - currently the conference's No. 7 seed - are 5-5.
McDaniel's outfit - which plays the Las Vegas Raiders next - has a 31% chance of reaching the postseason, according to The Athletic.
