Fans aren't the only ones who judge players based off their Madden NFL ratings.

The New York Jets and Denver Broncos were exploring a trade for Jerry Jeudy last offseason until negotiations were called off after Jets owner Woody Johnson felt the wide receiver's player rating in Madden wasn't high enough, sources told The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, Dianna Russini, and Michael Silver.

Johnson reportedly also disagreed with signing lineman John Simpson due to a low awareness rating. Simpson joined the Jets anyway, but Jeudy was ultimately traded to the Cleveland Browns and ranks fifth in the NFL in receiving yards this season with 1,052.

The evaluation method is believed to be evidence of influence from Johnson's sons, Brick and Jack. The Jets owner has reportedly included his sons in some team meetings dating back to last season.

Former Jets general manager Joe Douglas said, "I answer to a teenager," to describe the power dynamic, The Athletic reports.

A Jets spokesperson denied Brick and Jack's influence on decision-making, calling it only a "reference point."

The Jets' season spiraled into disaster with both Douglas and former head coach Robert Saleh being fired midseason. It was reported after a loss in Week 4 that Johnson went as far as suggesting benching Aaron Rodgers. The franchise reportedly prefers to move on from the veteran quarterback this offseason. Rodgers has led the team to a 4-10 record in 2024.
