Eagles' Hurts sustains concussion in loss to Commanders

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts left Sunday's 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders in the first quarter because of a concussion.

Hurts exited the contest after seeming to hitting his head on the ground while running the ball. He was officially ruled out for the remainder of the matchup with a head injury minutes later.

The 26-year-old had his helmet on and looked ready to return after leaving the blue medical tent, but he was eventually taken to the locker room.

Hurts completed 1 of 4 pass attempts for 11 yards to go along with 41 rushing yards before leaving. He entered Sunday with a 69.2% completion rate for 2,892 yards and 18 touchdowns against five interceptions in 14 games.

Kenny Pickett replaced Hurts and went 14-for-24 passing with 143 yards and one TD to one interception. Philadelphia acquired Pickett to back up Hurts as part of an offseason trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Running back Saquon Barkley carried the ball 29 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough for Philly to avoid a loss that dropped the team to 12-3.

The Eagles are now one game behind the Detroit Lions in the race for the NFC's No. 1 seed with two weeks left in the regular season.
