Rodgers becomes 5th QB in NFL history to throw 500 career TDs
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers became the fifth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 500 career touchdowns, hitting the milestone during Sunday's 32-20 win over the Miami Dolphins.
Rodgers hit the mark with a pass to Tyler Conklin in the second quarter. He finished the matchup with four touchdowns, his first four-TD performance since 2021.
Rodgers joins Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre as the only QBs with 500 touchdown passes in their NFL careers. Brady leads the group with 649 and is the only member of the 600-touchdown club.
QB | TDs | Teams | |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Brady | 649 | NE/TB |
2 | Brees | 571 | SD/NO |
3 | Manning | 539 | IND/DEN |
4 | Favre | 508 | GB/NYJ/MIN* |
5 | Rodgers | 500 | GB/NYJ |
*Favre was drafted by the Falcons in 1991 and made two appearances with Atlanta but didn't throw any touchdowns with the team
Rodgers and Manning are the only players to reach 500 career TD passes in fewer than 250 appearances.
Rodgers threw 475 regular-season touchdowns as a member of the Green Bay Packers, the most in franchise history. The four-time NFL MVP spent his first 18 seasons with Green Bay and started 223 games after replacing Favre as the starter in 2008.
Rodgers, 41, joined the Jets as part of a trade during the 2023 offseason but barely played in his first year with the club after sustaining an Achilles injury four snaps into his New York debut. The 10-time Pro Bowler returned this season but has been inconsistent. He failed to throw his TD No. 500 last week versus the Buffalo Bills and entered the matchup against the Dolphins with a 63% completion rate to go along with 3,623 yards and 24 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.
It's unclear what's next for Rodgers after the 2024 campaign. The veteran passer has left his future open, while the Jets have yet to commit to bringing him back in 2025. New York acquired Rodgers hoping to end a postseason drought that dates back to 2010, but the team entered the regular-season finale already eliminated from playoff contention.
Rodgers is also the only active player to reach the 400-TD mark. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford ranks second among active QBs with 377 career TD passes.
Patrick Mahomes is the active player with the best shot at one day throwing 500 TDs. The Kansas City Chiefs superstar has 245 career touchdowns in seven seasons as an NFL starter. He's the fastest to throw 100 and 200 touchdowns in NFL history.
