Report: Chiefs to rest key starters in season finale vs. Broncos
The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to rest key starters, including Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones, against the Denver Broncos in next week's season finale, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports.
The Chiefs, who have already locked up home-field advantage and a first-round bye, want to make sure they go into the playoffs healthy, Glazer adds.
Mahomes sitting would mean veteran Carson Wentz gets the start under center.
Kansas City playing without its starters will have huge implications for the rest of the AFC playoff race. The Broncos need a victory against the Chiefs to clinch a playoff berth. Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, and Cincinnati Bengals would all require a Denver loss plus winning out to have a shot at making the postseason.
The Chiefs have won 15 of 16 games in 2024 thus far as they attempt an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat.
