Saquon becomes 9th RB in NFL history to run for 2K yards in season
Saquon Barkley's historic first season with the Philadelphia Eagles continues.
The superstar running back topped 2,000 rushing yards this season with a long run in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 41-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Barkley is only the ninth player in NFL history to have at least 2,000 yards on the ground in a single campaign. The new Eagles star has now rushed for 2,005 yards in 2024 and will have a chance to break Eric Dickerson's record of 2,105 yards next week against his former team, the New York Giants.
Here's every running back who's topped the 2,000-yard mark:
RB | Yards | Year | Team | |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Eric Dickerson | 2105 | 1984 | LAR |
2 | Adrian Peterson | 2097 | 2012 | MIN |
3 | Jamal Lewis | 2066 | 2003 | BAL |
4 | Barry Sanders | 2053 | 1997 | DET |
5 | Derrick Henry | 2027 | 2020 | TEN |
6 | Terrell Davis | 2008 | 1998 | DEN |
7 | Chris Johnson | 2006 | 2009 | TEN |
8 | Saquon Barkley | 2005 | 2024 | PHI |
9 | O.J. Simpson | 2003 | 1973 | BUF |
Simpson is the only player to top 2,000 yards in fewer than 16 games, as the former NFL MVP reached that milestone in 14 games. Barkley could break the record in his 17th regular-season appearance of the year.
Barkley signed with the Eagles during the 2024 offseason after spending his first six NFL seasons with the Giants, who let him walk in free agency. The 27-year-old has put on a show with Philly and leads the league in rushing and scrimmage yards.
