Daniels breaks RG3's record for most rushing yards by rookie QB
Jayden Daniels entered the NFL record books one more time during Sunday's 30-24 overtime win against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Commanders quarterback passed former Washington signal-caller Robert Griffin III for the most rushing yards by a rookie QB. Daniels set the new mark in the fourth quarter after entering Sunday with 737 yards on the ground.
Daniels - who rushed for 127 yards versus Atlanta - has now run for 864 yards as a rookie with one week left in the regular season.
Griffin rushed for 815 yards in 2012 en route to winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. The former No. 2 pick put on a show with Washington that year, finishing the campaign with 3,200 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes against just five interceptions while adding seven TDs on the ground.
Daniels has also taken the NFL by storm to help the Commanders post double-digit wins for the first time since 2012. The 2024 No. 2 pick has already set multiple rookie records this year, including the highest single-game completion percentage (91.3%) and the team rookie passing yards mark in a season.
Already one of the more dynamic QBs in the NFL, Daniels also shined as a passer Sunday and threw three touchdowns, including the game-winning score to Zach Ertz in overtime. With the triumph, the Commanders clinched their first playoff berth since the 2020 season.
