Ja'Marr Chase secures rare NFL receiving triple crown

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase became just the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to finish a season as the NFL's leader in catches, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions.

Chase caught 127 passes for 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2024, setting career highs in all categories. He finished with a comfortable lead in each triple crown category, amassing 12 more catches than Amon-Ra St. Brown, 175 more yards than Justin Jefferson, and four more touchdown receptions than Terry McLaurin.

Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp most recently captured the league's receiving triple crown - having achieved the feat in 2021 - but Steve Smith (2005) was the only other pass-catcher to do it in the 2000s. Jerry Rice (1990) and Sterling Sharpe (1992) also topped the NFL in every major receiving category.

Kupp's 2021 season with the Rams ended with a Super Bowl title in which the wideout was named Super Bowl MVP after catching the game-winning touchdown against Chase's Bengals.

Despite Chase's excellent 2024 campaign, the Bengals missed the playoffs with a 9-8 record. Cincinnati won its fifth straight game Saturday, but it wasn't enough for the team to sneak into the postseason. The Denver Broncos clinched the AFC's final playoff spot by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
