The New England Patriots plan to interview Mike Vrabel on Thursday for their head coaching vacancy, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

New England began looking for a head coach after firing Jerod Mayo, who went 4-13 in his one season.

Vrabel is considered a front-runner for the job, Rapoport reports. The 49-year-old played for New England from 2001-08, helping the franchise win three Super Bowl titles. He was recently inducted into the team's Hall of Fame.

The 2021 Coach of the Year spent the 2024 season as a personnel consultant for the Cleveland Browns. He previously coached the Tennessee Titans from 2018-23, posting a 54-45 regular-season record to go along with three playoff appearances.

The Patriots have also held head coaching interviews with former Houston Texans offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneers OC Byron Leftwich. The team also plans to speak with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

The Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets are reportedly also interested in Vrabel for their head coaching vacancies.
