Report: Lions' Glenn declines Patriots interview
Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn declined to interview for the New England Patriots' head coaching vacancy, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
New England was hoping to interview Glenn on Friday and was waiting to finalize the time slot Thursday morning, according to CBS Sports' Josina Anderson. Glenn will reportedly interview for the five other open head coaching positions in the next few days, Pelissero notes.
Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is considered a top contender for the Patriots' job and has already completed his in-persom interview, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Dan Campbell hired Glenn as Lions defensive coordinator in 2021. Glenn's defense ranked seventh in points allowed per game (20.1) and tied for fifth in interceptions (16) this season despite numerous injuries to key defensive players.
"(Glenn's) as good of a coach as you're going to find," Campbell said Tuesday, according to NFL.com's Kevin Patra. He added, "If nobody wants him, I'll take him again. I can tell you that right now. The thought of going through another cycle and he's not somebody's head coach is ridiculous.“
The Lions are the top seed in the NFC and will play the lowest-seeded team in the divisional round.
