Browns promote Rees to offensive coordinator
The Cleveland Browns are promoting tight ends coach Tommy Rees to offensive coordinator, the team announced Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Rees will replace Ken Dorsey, who was fired after one season earlier this month following a 3-14 campaign.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski is expected to retake play-calling duties after stepping back from the role last season, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Rees quickly rose to prominence in the college ranks, serving as the offensive play-caller for Alabama (2023) and his alma mater Notre Dame (2020-22).
Rees joined Cleveland last offseason. He oversaw the TE group and worked as the Browns' passing game specialist. The former Notre Dame quarterback also interviewed twice for the North Carolina job before Bill Belichick was named the program's next head coach.
Cleveland tabbed Rees as its new OC after conducting interviews with several other candidates, including Klint Kubiak, Darrell Bevell, and Charles London.
The Browns finished this past season averaging 300.8 total yards (28th in the NFL) and were last in scoring with 15.2 points per game.
