Rams' Verse named DROY over Eagles' Mitchell, others
Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Jared Verse was named the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year on Thursday.
Verse was joined by teammate defensive lineman Braden Fiske, Philadelphia Eagles cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, and Miami Dolphins pass-rusher Chop Robinson as finalists for the honor.
Verse earned 37 first-place votes and 427 total points to beat out Mitchell, who finished with 239 points, according to The Associated Press' Josh Dubow.
Verse was a disruptive force for the Rams all season, tallying 4.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 18 quarterback hits, a pair of forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries while playing 75% of the Rams' defensive snaps.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder's 56 total pressures ranked second in the NFL behind Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard's 59, according to PFF. He also ranked third in pass-rush win rate (26.8%) among all players with at least 300 pass-rush snaps.
Verse, who was drafted out of Florida State after starting his college career at Albany, was selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2024 draft.
