Myles Garrett consulted LeBron James before publicly requesting a trade from the Cleveland Browns, the defensive end revealed Wednesday.

The two athletes discussed "what a transition looked like" and "his thought process going into it before he left Cleveland," Garrett said on the "Rich Eisen Show," according to ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi.

"It's never been about the Hall of Fame for me. It's not about money or records. You're remembered for winning," Garrett said, per Oyefusi.

James, a native of Akron, Ohio, spent the first seven years of his career with his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. He became a free agent in 2010 after the Cavs were unable to reach the NBA Finals and signed with the Miami Heat, with whom he won back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

Garrett requested a trade from the Browns on Monday. Cleveland has been unable to generate success in his seven-year tenure with the franchise, making the playoffs twice over that span and winning only one postseason game. The 29-year-old signed a five-year, $125-million extension in 2020.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry said at this year's Senior Bowl that the team wouldn't trade Garrett. The team is "not entertaining offers" after the trade request, a source told CBS' Jonathan Jones.

"I just want to go to a contender," Garrett said Wednesday, per Oyefusi. "I know in my position, I don't have much say in where I go. But hopefully, we can leave off on good terms and we can find a middle ground between us."

Garrett finished this season with 14 sacks and a career-high 40 solo tackles. The Browns went 3-14 and hold the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
