The Pittsburgh Steelers will be the designated host team when the NFL plays its first regular-season game in Ireland next season, the league announced Friday.

The Steelers' opponent for the contest in Dublin wasn't revealed.

The game will be one of several international bouts in 2025. The league also has games scheduled in London, Germany, and Mexico. Australia will host a contest for the first time in 2026 as a part of the NFL's continued efforts to grow the game internationally.

Pittsburgh finished second in the AFC North in 2024 with a 10-7 record. The club lost 28-14 to the Baltimore Ravens in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Steelers face uncertainty at the quarterback position with both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields scheduled to hit free agency. Wilson was named a Pro Bowl alternate with 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 11 starts this season. Fields started the team's six other games and threw for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and one pick. He also had 289 yards and five scores rushing.

Dan Rooney, who was the Steelers' primary owner from 1988-2016 before he died in 2017, was the United States ambassador to Ireland from July 2009 until December 2012.
