The New Orleans Saints hired Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their new head coach, the team announced Tuesday.

Moore was touted as the favorite to land the job. He helped lead the Eagles to a dominant Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in his first season as the team's offensive coordinator.

Former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is the leading candidate to become the Saints' defensive coordinator, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Moore was Staley's offensive coordinator in 2023 as the Chargers finished 5-12 and last in the AFC West.

The Saints told other head coaching candidates - interim coach Darren Rizzi, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver - on Jan. 31 that the team would wait to speak with Moore again after the Super Bowl. Moore wasn't allowed to be named head coach until after the Big Game due to no-contact-period rules.

This is Moore's first head coaching gig. He previously led the Dallas Cowboys' offense from 2019-22 and the Chargers' offense in 2023.

The 36-year-old fills the seventh and final head coaching vacancy.

The Eagles were one of the best offenses in the regular season under Moore, finishing second in average rushing yards per game and seventh in average points per contest. Saquon Barkley was named Offensive Player of the Year after racking up 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Philadelphia will now need to find its fourth offensive coordinator in four seasons.

The Saints finished 5-12 in 2024, ranking 21st in average total yards and 24th in average points. They haven't made the playoffs since 2020 and have the least cap space in the NFL, according to Over the Cap. New Orleans holds the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
