Dolphins' Hill to race Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles
Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill will race Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles in a race after the two traded barbs over who is faster.
The competition will take place in either the spring or summer. A location and distance has not yet been determined.
"This has been an ongoing thing for quite some time now, and I mean, everybody's seen the back and forth on social media," Hill said in an interview with People Magazine's Natasha Dye. "I've been very adamant to show people what real, true speed looks like,"
Hill challenged Lyles to a 50-meter race after the latter won gold at the Summer Olympics in Paris last year. The 27-year-old Lyles said in September that the duo entertained a 60-meter race.
The five-time first-team All-Pro wideout has been known for his blistering speed throughout his time in the NFL. Hill's official time in the 40-yard dash at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine was an impressive 4.29 seconds, and the eight-time Pro Bowler was clocked at 22.01 mph during a 64-yard reception against the New York Giants during his 2023 campaign, per Fox Sports.
Hill explained that he wants to race Lyles to represent the athleticism of football players.
"(I've) got to do this for the guys that play my sport," he said.
Plans were put in place after Lyles won his fourth straight 60-meter final at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Feb. 2. The gold medalist taunted Hill following the race by holding up a sign that read "Tyreek could never."
"That's why I'm the world's fastest," Lyles said. "I did at the Olympics. I do it at world championships. I do it wherever it's needed to be done. And if I gotta go down and, you know, beat up on Tyreek to prove that I'm the world's fastest, then it's gonna be done."
Hill joked that Lyles was scared to compete in a 40-meter dash, while the Olympian responded that a 100-meter race would be "a blowout" in his favor.
