Slay wants to play 1 more season, ideally with Eagles or Lions
Veteran cornerback Darius Slay wants to play one more season, and he hopes to do it with the Philadelphia Eagles or Detroit Lions.
"I've got one more (year) left (on my contract), but you know how that works. ... If I ain't (back), we'll see what I'm doing because I do want to play one more year," Slay told Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on the "St. Brown Podcast."
Slay is under contract through 2025, but the Eagles could release him this offseason as they try to open up more cap space. While he'd like to remain in Philadelphia, he'd also welcome a return to Detroit, where he spent the first seven years of his NFL career.
"The two spots I would love to always be at is Philly or Detroit," Slay responded when Brown asked him about potentially coming back to the Lions.
Slay, 34, was part of the Eagles' defense that shut down the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, capturing his first Lombardi Trophy. He ended the 2024 regular season without an interception but did snag one during the team's wild-card win over the Green Bay Packers.
The Lions selected Slay in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft and traded him to Philadelphia during the 2020 offseason. He's been named to six Pro Bowls and grabbed 28 interceptions over his career, including a league-high eight picks in 2017.
