Report: Jets high on Justin Fields
The New York Jets are apparently eyeing Justin Fields ahead of free agency.
The Jets - who announced they plan to part ways with Aaron Rodgers - are believed to be the team with the most interest in Fields, according to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.
New York's interest in Fields has been discussed within the last two weeks, sources told NFL insider Josina Anderson. The league's negotiating window opens March 10.
Fields, 26, remains in touch with the Steelers, who have also kept tabs on Russell Wilson, notes Schultz. Pittsburgh hopes to return one of them after starting both throughout the 2024 season. Wilson and Rodgers have both reportedly generated interest from the New York Giants.
Fields competed with Wilson for the Steelers' QB1 job in 2024 and ultimately won it after Wilson sustained a calf injury at training camp. The former started the season's first six games before Pittsburgh turned to Wilson despite Fields' 10 total touchdowns against just one interception.
One of the NFL's most dangerous rushing quarterbacks, Fields has lacked consistency as a passer since the Chicago Bears drafted him 11th overall in 2021. Chicago traded him to Pittsburgh during the 2024 offseason before drafting Caleb Williams with the first overall pick last April.
The Jets are looking for a signal-caller again after a disappointing two-campaign stint with Rodgers. The four-time NFL MVP - whom New York acquired as part of a 2023 trade with the Green Bay Packers - missed all but four snaps in his debut season in the Big Apple due to injury. He then failed to lead the team to the playoffs in a 2024 campaign marked by off-field drama for the AFC East club.
The Jets - who haven't had a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards in a season since 1967 - last reached the playoffs in 2010. They hired Aaron Glenn as head coach and Darren Mougey as general manager this year.
