The Detroit Lions are making Kerby Joseph the highest-paid safety in NFL history with a four-year, $86-million extension, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Joseph's new contract, worth a reported $21.5 million annually, surpasses the $21.025 million per year earned by Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Antoine Winfield Jr., setting a new benchmark for safeties.

The 24-year-old has been a key contributor to the Lions' defense since being drafted in the third round in 2022. Joseph's 17 interceptions are the most by any player since he entered the league.

Joseph has recorded at least four interceptions in each of his three seasons, including a league-leading nine picks in 2024.

He was slated to enter the final year of his rookie deal before inking his record-breaking extension.
