Myles Garrett: Parsons 'should get every penny he's owed'
Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett lobbied for Micah Parsons, insisting the Dallas Cowboys should reward their star linebacker as he seeks a contract extension.
"He deserves whatever he's earned," Garrett said of Parsons, according to Abby Jones of DLLS Sports. "The guy is special. Once I got the chance to train with him, I've seen his work ethic. I've seen how he attacks. The weights. Running. He's 100% committed to his craft and getting better every day. He's someone who has that level of dedication to the game.
"He should get every penny he's owed."
Garrett requested a trade from the Browns in March but eventually stayed put by signing a four-year, $160-million extension, a record for defensive players.
Parsons, who's entering the last year of his rookie deal, could reset that market. However, it remains unclear when Dallas might sign him to a new contract. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is known for not rushing to extend his biggest stars. In 2024, he waited to ink receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott to long-term deals until August and September, respectively.
Parsons attended minicamp last week despite not having a new deal. The 26-year-old recently said negotiations are in Jones' hands. With Parsons projected to sign a record-breaking deal, Jones' patience could cost the Cowboys more money, as other high-profile edge rushers are also looking for lucrative extensions. Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt and Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson skipped minicamp while angling for new deals.
Parsons has established himself as one of the NFL's premier defenders, having earned three All-Pro nods (two first-team selections) and a Defensive Rookie of the Year award since being drafted 12th overall in 2021.
