Chargers' Slater done for season due to torn patellar tendon
Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater will miss the 2025 season after sustaining a torn patellar tendon during Thursday's practice, the team announced.
The 26-year-old left practice on a cart, spurring concerns about a potential major injury. Teammates came up to hug him before he headed to the locker room.
Slater signed a four-year, $114-million extension this offseason with $92 million guaranteed. His $28.5-million average annual salary is the highest for an offensive lineman in NFL history.
The Northwestern product suited up in 15 contests last season, earning Pro Bowl honors while allowing three sacks and 22 pressures in 244 pass-blocking snaps, according to PFF.
Slater has started 51 games since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2021. He missed the final 14 games of the 2022 season due to a torn biceps.
