Commanders activate McLaurin off PUP list amid hold-in
The Washington Commanders activated wide receiver Terry McLaurin off the physically unable to perform list, the team announced Saturday.
McLaurin has been holding in amid a contract standoff. He initially didn't report, but after a four-day holdout, he arrived at camp and was placed on the PUP list.
Washington head coach Dan Quinn confirmed McLaurin coming off the PUP list is "definitely separate" from his contract situation, according to The Washington Post's Adam Kilgore.
Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury pushed McLaurin to end his hold-in Friday, voicing concern over the offense's lack of on-field time as a complete group.
McLaurin has one season left on a three-year, $68.2-million contract signed in 2022. His $23.2-million average annual salary ranks 17th among wide receivers across the NFL. New teammate Deebo Samuel, who the Commanders acquired in March, will earn $23.85 million in 2025, according to Over The Cap.
McLaurin snagged a career-high 13 touchdowns and racked up 82 receptions for 1,096 receiving yards. His 23.2% team target percentage in 2024 ranked seventh in the NFL among wideouts, per Fantasy Pros.
Washington has two preseason games remaining before its season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 7.
