Glenn: We're not 'same old Jets' despite 0-3 start
First-year head coach Aaron Glenn squashed comparisons to previous iterations of the New York Jets on Sunday after falling to 0-3 with a gut-wrenching loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"We're not the same team as, like everyone says, 'Same old Jets,'" Glenn said after a 29-27 defeat, according to SNY. "These guys are going to fight no matter what the situation is. There's no give-up to them. I hate that term, and I really don't know what that term means, but I know this: They're not the 'same old Jets.'"
The Jets, playing with quarterback Tyrod Taylor over an injured Justin Fields, took a one-point lead over the Buccaneers with 1:49 left in the fourth quarter after Will McDonald IV returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown. However, Glenn's outfit wasn't able to hold on, allowing a 36-yard field goal to Tampa Bay as time expired.
The Jets are 0-3 for the fourth time in the past seven years and haven't made the playoffs since the 2010 season. New York has been outscored 93-69 so far this season.
"We're 0-3. How many games do we have left?" Glenn said. " ... We have a lot of games to go play. And you can build on this. The one thing I don't do - which I understand New York media tries to do - is the negative parts of it. I'm not going to be that way; I'm going to let you guys deal with that. We're going to look at the things we did well, and we're going to continue to push forward."
Taylor is also confident that New York will start to see results before long.
"It's going to change," the veteran passer said. "I know we have the right guys in the locker room to do so."
The Jets play the 0-3 Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football next.
