Commanders without Daniels, McLaurin vs. Falcons
The Washington Commanders won't have quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Terry McLaurin for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, head coach Dan Quinn announced Friday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Marcus Mariota will start a second straight game in place of Daniels, who is dealing with a knee injury. Daniels was a limited participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday but wasn't seen in the period open to media Friday. The second-year quarterback sported a brace on his left knee earlier this week. He said Wednesday that he felt good but the decision was up to the team's doctors, according to ESPN's John Keim.
Meanwhile, Quinn classified McLaurin's quad injury as "week-to-week," per Garafolo. The wideout incurred the injury last week against the Las Vegas Raiders and is reportedly seeking more medical opinions on the issue. Sunday will mark McLaurin's first game missed since Week 16 of the 2020 season, ending a 72-game streak.
Mariota completed 71.4% of his passes for one touchdown and no interceptions in last week's 41-24 win over the Raiders. He'll square off against his former team in this Sunday's matchup. Mariota made 13 starts for the Falcons in 2022, going 5-8.
Washington is off to a 2-1 start.
