The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to decide whether to activate the option on Mike Tomlin's contract for 2027 by March 1, 2026, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tomlin has two years remaining on his contract after this season, though 2026 could be the last year on his deal if the Steelers elect to decline his option.

The longtime Steelers coach is not expected to be fired, though there will be meetings and a review that takes place after the season, Schefter adds.

Tomlin's contract also includes a no-trade clause, Schefter notes.

Speculation about Tomlin's job security came to the forefront after fans at Acrisure Stadium chanted for him to be fired during last Sunday's 26-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Tomlin said postgame that he understands the frustration of the fans.

The loss dropped the Steelers to 6-6 on the season.

The NFL's longest-tenured head coach, Tomlin has never had a losing season since taking the Steelers job in 2007. However, the former Super Bowl winner has not led Pittsburgh to a playoff victory since the 2016 season.
