San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey beat out a pair of quarterbacks to claim the Comeback Player of the Year award Thursday.

McCaffrey was one of five finalists for the honor, along with Dallas Cowboys passer Dak Prescott, Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller Trevor Lawrence, Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, and New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

Player First-place votes Points
Christian McCaffrey 31 395
Aidan Hutchinson 9 221
Dak Prescott 6 167
Trevor Lawrence 2 130
Stefon Diggs 0 40

McCaffrey was also a finalist for the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards this season.

Injuries limited McCaffrey to only four appearances in 2024, but the 29-year-old bounced back in style in '25, registering an NFL-high 413 touches for 2,126 scrimmage yards and 17 total touchdowns. His dominant performance earned him a first-team All-Pro selection as The Associated Press' top all-purpose player.

This is the first time a non-quarterback has won the Comeback Player of the Year award since wide receiver Keenan Allen in 2017.
