Vikings extend Flores; will reportedly return barring HC offer

The Minnesota Vikings agreed to a contract extension with defensive coordinator Brian Flores, the team announced Wednesday.

The extension ensures that Flores, who was on an expiring contract, stays with the Vikings unless he accepts a head coaching offer, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Flores is reportedly a candidate for the Baltimore Ravens' and Pittsburgh Steelers' coaching vacancies.

Other teams have also shown interest in Flores for their defensive coordinator roles, Pelissero reports. The Washington Commanders had him in for an interview for their defensive coordinator opening.

The 44-year-old has been the Vikings' defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. Minnesota has ranked inside the top 10 in points allowed in each of the last two years, with Flores' unit surrendering 19.5 points per game in 2024 (fifth) and 19.6 PPG this past season (seventh).
