Carr: I'd only unretire for a Super Bowl contender
Derek Carr confirmed Thursday that he's open to coming out of retirement, but would only do it on certain conditions, including the chance to compete for a Super Bowl.
Would I do it? Yes. Would I do it for anybody? Absolutely not," Carr said on his podcast, "Home Grown."
He continued: "I'd have to be healthy and I would want a chance to win a Super Bowl. Obviously, that's a tough thing to find."
It was reported earlier this month that teams began probing if the 34-year-old would come out of retirement. Carr opted to end his playing career last offseason due to a labral tear in his shoulder and damage to his rotator cuff.
The potential NFL returnee reportedly has been rehabbing the shoulder injury and has no limitations. Carr's brother, David, also mentioned on the podcast that his younger sibling is healthy.
Any return would have to be dictated by Carr's most recent NFL team, the New Orleans Saints, since the franchise still owns his contractual rights.
A former second-round pick of the then-Oakland Raiders, Carr threw for 15 touchdowns and five interceptions across 10 games in 2024, his final year in the league. He had 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 9-8 record during his last full season in 2023.
