NO 49, DAL 17: Saints set NFL record with 40 first downs in win over Cowboys

The New Orleans Saints embarrassed the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night with a 49-17 win.  Dallas could do nothing to slow down the Saints offense as Drew Brees threw four touchdown passes.

Here's what you need to know:

  • The Saints broke an NFL record with 40 first downs in the game, Dallas had just nine
  • New Orleans set a franchise record with 625 total yards, that's also the most the Cowboys have allowed in a game in franchise history
  • Brees was in complete control.  He finished 34-of-41 for 392 yards with four touchdowns.  He completed 19 straight passes at one point during the first half
  • It was Brees' 23rd career game with four or more touchdown passes.  That ties him with Brett Favre for second most all-time, trailing only Peyton Manning's 27
  • Mark Ingram had 14 carries for a career-high 145 yards and a touchdown, it was his first career 100-yard game
  • Marques Colston returned after missing last week's loss to the Jets.  The Saints wideout caught seven passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.  It was his first 100-yard game of the season and 24th of his career
  • Jimmy Graham caught five passes for 59 yards.  He now has 269 career receptions, most in Saints history by a tight end
  • The Saints were 9-of-12 on third down while the Cowboys went 0-for-9
  • Tony Romo struggled, going 10-of-24 for 128 yards and a touchdown
  • No Cowboy wide receiver caught a pass in the first half
  • Dez Bryant had just one catch (for 44 yards) that came with just over a minute to go in the third quarter
  • Dallas lost linebackers Sean Lee and Justin Durant for the game due to hamstring injuries
  • DeMarco Murray had 16 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown.  Dallas ran the ball only nine times during last week's win over the Vikings
