The New York Jets will keep running back Breece Hall either through an extension or one of the tags available to them, general manager Darren Mougey said Tuesday at the NFL combine.

"The tags are an option," Mougey told reporters. "Ideally, we find a way to get a deal done and keep Breece around. ... We have a week to find out, you know, if we can't get to an agreement, which way we'll go with that tag."

The franchise tag is projected to be worth $14.5 million while the transition tag is expected to come in at $11.7 million, according to Over the Cap.

Hall, 24, is coming off of a career season in which he rushed for 1,065 yards. He was one of the few bright spots on a Jets team that spiraled to a 3-14 record in 2025.

Mougey also acknowledged that quarterback Justin Fields is on the roster with no "trigger date" to make a decision on his contract, though that won't stop the front office from analyzing how to add to the position. Fields signed a two-year, $40-million deal with the Jets last offseason but disappointed in 2025 with a 2-7 record in his starts.

The general manager expects the Jets to be active in free agency with a focus on adding veteran pieces to a youthful roster. New York is projected to have just over $79 million in cap space.

"Starting in free agency, I feel really good about the cap space we have," Mougey said. "I believe we'll be able to add some good players."
