SEA 23, SF 17: Seahawks come from behind to earn trip to the Super Bowl

The Seattle Seahawks forced three fourth quarter turnovers and came from behind to defeat the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 in the NFC championship game.  The Seahawks scored 13 unanswered points after trailing 17-10 late in the third quarter.

Here's what you need to know:

  • With the win the Seahawks are off to the Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history where they will face the Denver Broncos.  It will be the first time the two top seeds meet in the Super Bowl since 2010.  Seattle's previous appearance came in Super Bowl XL when the Seahawks fell 21-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  This time we'll see the rare matchup between the best offense and the best defense in the league.
  • Marshawn Lynch had 22 carries for 109 yards including a 40-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that tied the game at 10 and created some seismic activity in Seattle.  The 40-yard run was the longest the 49ers have allowed under head coach Jim Harbaugh and Lynch became the first player to go over 100 yards rushing against San Francisco this season.
  • 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was 14-of-24 for 153 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.  The picks were extremely costly as both came in the fourth quarter with the first leading to a Steven Hauschka field goal and the second clinching the win for Seattle.   He also rushed 11 times for 130 yards including a 58-yard run that was not only the longest allowed by the Seahawks defense,  but the longest of his career.
