Vic Fangio will be sticking around San Francisco a little longer as the 49ers have signed their defensive coordinator to a contract extension through 2015, per a report from the Sacramento Bee. It's both an extension and a raise for Fangio, and it keeps him in the fold until head coach Jim Harbaugh's deal is set to expire as well.
Fangio was Harbaugh's defensive coordinator when the two were at Stanford in 2010 and came with him when he took over the 49ers. Under Fangio San Francisco's defense went from 13th in 2010 to fourth in 2011 and was ranked third and fifth in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Fangio was considered a candidate for a number of head coaching positions during the offseason and Harbaugh openly lobbied for him to receive a better contract earlier this month.
