ESPN analyst Hoge on Johnny Manziel: 'I see bust written all over him'

ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Ron Jaworski was less than impressed with former Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, saying he wouldn't take the Heisman Trophy winner in the first three rounds of the draft. It appears Jaws isn't the only analyst at ESPN to have doubts about Manziel's pro potential.

Merril Hoge, a former running back with the Pittsburgh Steelers, made his feelings for Manziel crystal clear during a Wednesday edition of "SportsCenter."

"I see bust written all over him," Hoge said of Manizel. "Especially if he's drafted in the first round."

Manziel, along with Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles, is considered one of the top three quarterbacks in the 2014 class and all but guaranteed to go in the first round with most experts predicting he's taken in the top 10.

Hoge pointed to Manziel's tendency to get out of the pocket while with the Aggies and that his run-first mentality won't work for him in the NFL the way it did in college.

"He has absolutely no instinct or feel for pocket awareness," Hoge said. "He has an instinct to run. That's a bad instinct if you're going to have that in the National Football League. You have to play in the pocket with traffic around you and throw it. When traffic comes around him, he runs, and that's dangerous in the National Football League.

"[Manziel's] skill set does not transition to the National Football League," Hoge said, "and it's a big, big risk."
