Wootton, a fourth-round pick in 2010, has spent his entire four-year career with the Chicago Bears. Primarily a defensive end, Wootton made the switch to defensive tackle last year after the season-ending injury to Henry Melton. He registered 34 tackles and three sacks while starting 15 games last season. Wootton had a career-high seven sacks in 2012.
The signing of Wootton continues an eventful offseason for the Vikings defensive line. Longtime veterans like Jared Allen and Kevin Williams are out, with Tom Johnson, Fred Evans and Linval Jospeh being added in their place.
With Wooten's versatility he can play either end or tackle, but considering Minnesota has signed three other tackles in free agency, it seems likely the Vikings will use him as an end.
