NFC Scout: Texas A&M WR Mike Evans made Johnny Manziel, not the other way around

Former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel saw his draft stock rise following a strong pro day performance last week, but at least one NFC scout isn't impressed with the polarizing passer.

The anonymous talent evaluator told NJ.com's Mark Eckel that he or she believes Manziel's value is inflated by the strong play of Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans (also a top draft prospect).

"In my opinion, (Evans) made Johnny Manziel, not the other way around," the scout opined. "A lot of times, Manziel just ran around and threw it up for grabs, and he came down with it."

The chicken-or-egg problem will be a tough one for NFL teams to figure out. Manziel and Evans often seemed like ideal complements for each other's playing style.

Take, for example, the pair's impressive performance against Alabama last season. Is Evans bailing out Manziel on these throws? Or is Manziel showing the foresight to target his talented wideout despite strong coverage - and putting the ball where only he can catch it?
