Report: Bears may need to give up draft pick in order to trade Jay Cutler
With Jay Cutler having signed a massive long-term deal this past offseason, trading the now-benched quarterback may prove difficult for the Chicago Bears.
That is, unless the team gets creative.
There's a belief around the league that for another team to take on the $25.5 million in guaranteed money remaining on Cutler's contract, the Bears might have to package him with a decent draft pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
While surrendering any sort of significant draft compensation would be difficult for both the Bears organization and fans to accept, such a deal would allow the team to move on from their beleaguered signal-caller. In turn, they could use the money saved to address other weaknesses on the roster.
The Bears likely won't decide on Cutler's future until some clarity is brought to their coaching situation, but this may be one of their few viable options if they decide to part ways with the veteran quarterback.
