After sitting out all previous voluntary offseason workouts in search of a long-term contract, Muhammad Wilkerson reported to the start of the New York Jets' mandatory minicamp Tuesday.

Though contract discussions have not progressed, the standout defensive end choosing to participate in mandatory team activities will see him avoid the fairly substantial fines imposed on absentees.

Despite his frustrations surrounding the pace of negotiations to this point, Wilkerson indicated that he's hopeful the two sides can come to terms on an agreement.

The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the Jets' most productive defenders in the four seasons since joining the club as a first-round draft selection, but it remains unclear if the Jets will be open to a lucrative long-term deal after selecting fellow lineman Leonard Williams with the sixth overall pick this year.
