The Kansas City Chiefs released veteran running back Cyrus Gray on Wednesday, just as training camp practices officially get underway.
Gray joined the Chiefs as a sixth-round selection in the 2012 draft, appearing in 35 games over three seasons as a reserve back and special teams contributor.
Head coach Andy Reid told reporters that cutting Gray, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 10 of the 2014 season, wasn't a medical-related decision.
The Chiefs' roster now sits at 89 players, with one open spot the team can be expected to fill sooner than later.
