Report: Ex-NFL QB Erik Kramer treated for gunshot after apparent suicide attempt
Former NFL quarterback Erik Kramer survived an apparent suicide attempt Wednesday night and was treated for a gunshot wound, according to a report from NBC Chicago.
Both police sources and Karmer's ex-wife confirmed that Kramer had shot himself in a Los Angeles motel, though the wound is not considered life-threatening.
Marshawn Kramer, Erik's former wife, told NBC in a phone interview that the former QB had suffered from depression for years, believing his time in the NFL is to blame.
"I can promise you he is not the same man I married," Marshawn Karmer said.
Erik Kramer played 10 seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers between 1987 and 1999. He passed for 15,337 yards, 92 touchdowns and 79 interceptions during his career.
His best season came in 1995 with the Bears, the only year in his career he started all 16 games. Kramer passed for 3,838 yards with 29 touchdowns (fourth most in the league) and 10 interceptions, leading Chicago to a 9-7 record.
