The Cincinnati Bengals signed left tackle Andrew Whitworth to a 1-year, $9-million extension that will keep him under contract through the 2016 campaign, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

Whitworth has spent his entire 10-year career with the Bengals since joining the club as a second-round draft selection in 2006, starting in all but 12 regular-season games over that span.

His time in Cincinnati appeared to be nearing its end when the team selected offensive tackles with each of its first two picks in the 2015 draft, but continued high-level production certainly earned him an extension.

Jake Fisher and Cedric Ogbuehi can be expected to compete for the starting right tackle job should Andre Smith depart in free agency this offseason. With Whitworth now set to return on the left side, the other could move to guard.
