Report: Colts trying to lure Jason Campbell out of retirement
Staring at the prospect of a month or longer without star quarterback Andrew Luck, the Colts are leaving no stone unturned.
The team has contacted Jason Campbell in an attempt to lure the former NFL quarterback out of retirement, ostensibly to back up Matt Hasselbeck, according to Pro Football Talk.
Perhaps the Colts shouldn't get their hopes up, however. Campbell is highly unlikely to play this year despite inquiries from several teams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
A first-round pick of the Washington Redskins in 2005, Campbell last played for the Cincinnati Bengals, completing four passes as Andy Dalton's backup in 2014. His last significant game action game in 2013, when he started eight games for the Cleveland Browns.
Campbell played under new Colts offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski in 2013.
At 33 years old, Campbell may still have some good football ahead of him. And, compared to the 40-year-old Hasselbeck, he looks positively youthful.
