Trent Richardson warns Derrick Henry about NFL: 'Stay levelheaded'
Derrick Henry capped a record-breaking season Monday night with a three-touchdown performance in the national championship game, and while the Alabama star was in action, another Crimson Tide legend was warning the potential NFL draft pick about life in the pros.
Former No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson joined FOX Sports' "Outkick The Show" during the title game to discuss the Heisman Trophy winner's future.
"I think (Henry) can be a great running back, he just needs to stay levelheaded," Richardson told host Clay Travis. "Make sure he doesn't have the wrong people around, because that can eat you up real fast. That can eat you up real fast having the wrong people around."
Richardson dominated the college ranks during his last season with Alabama in 2011, setting a school record with 1,679 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Henry shattered both of those records this season, finishing with a whopping 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns, but it isn't the production on field that Richardson is worried about for the 21-year-old.
"Most of the time it's not about the person playing football, but the people that's around him," Richardson said. "You just got to be smart about the situation that you're in. Football-wise he's a great running back because he works hard."
Henry is expected to be one of the top running backs selected should he declare for the 2016 NFL Draft.
