Defensive end Derrick Shelby has joined the Atlanta Falcons, the team confirmed.

The reported deal has a base value of $18 million and a maximum value of $21 million, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

The 27-year-old played in all 16 games for the Miami Dolphins last season and started nine games, tallying 37 tackles and three-and-a-half sacks. He has spent the length of his career with the Dolphins after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

The Falcons could lose defensive end Kroy Biermann to free agency, and defensive tackle Paul Soliai was officially released Wednesday.

Shelby projects to compete with Tyson Jackson to start opposite Vic Beasley on the defensive line.
