Valtteri Filppula is doing a second tour of duty in Detroit.
The Red Wings signed the veteran free-agent forward to a two-year deal Monday, the team announced. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Filppula spent the first seven seasons of his career in the Motor City. He then signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2013, a transaction overseen by current Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman. He joined the New York Islanders last year after spending parts of two seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers.
The 35-year-old tallied 17 goals and 31 points in 72 games with the Isles last season.
