San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson and his wife Melinda celebrated the birth of their daughter on Thursday.

Karlsson missed the Sharks' season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday due to what was officially listed as a personal matter.

The 29-year-old blue-liner inked an eight-year extension with the Sharks in June.
